La Chaumière des Roses is a French cottage set in the delightful village of Le Tôt de Haut, Fermanville, a conservation area approximately 11 miles east of Cherbourg off the coast road to Barfleur.  The cottage, which is in the middle of the village, is about 200 years old and is full of character.  It has its own small walled garden facing south.

The cottage is reached along a lovely coastal road with superb views, approximately 25 minutes drive from the Cherbourg ferries.  The beach (which you can swim from) is about 10 minutes walk down a farm track.  There is plenty to see and do in this unspoilt area.

La Chaumière des Roses is an ideal centre for touring, eating or just reading/ sleeping in the garden.  There are good markets at St. Pierre-Eglise on Wednesday, Cherbourg on Thursday and St. Vaast la Hougue on Saturday.  Normany beaches and museums are within easy reach, as well as plenty of pretty coastal walks and tiny harbours.
